Anchor Tabs Privacy Policy

Anchor Tabs ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps you save, organize, and restore open browser tabs into local workspaces. This policy explains what the Extension does and does not do with your data.

Data We Collect

Anchor Tabs does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. There are no analytics, no trackers, no advertising, and no third-party scripts embedded in the Extension.

How the Extension Works (current version)

Reading your tabs: When you click "Save all tabs" or open the side panel, the Extension reads only the title and URL of the tabs in the current browser window. It does not read the content of any web page, and it does not inject scripts into pages.
Saving locally: All workspaces, sessions, and tab metadata are stored locally on your device using the chrome.storage.local API. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
Export / Import: You can export all saved data as a JSON file to your own computer at any time, and import it back. This happens entirely on your device — no server is involved.
Free features: no network requests: All free features (saving tabs, workspaces, search, restore, export/import) make zero network requests and work fully offline.
Pro activation: one request, once: If you purchase a Pro license, the Extension sends the license key you typed to a verification endpoint one time to confirm it is valid. No tab data, no browsing history, and no personal information is sent. After activation, the result is cached locally; the Extension returns to making zero network requests.

Permissions Justification

tabs — to read the title and URL of your open tabs so they can be saved as a session. Used only when you click save or open the panel; page content is never accessed.
storage — to remember your workspaces, sessions, and settings locally.
sidePanel — to show the tab-manager interface in the browser side panel.
commands — to let you save all tabs with the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+A).

Remote Code

The Extension contains no remotely hosted code. All code ships inside the extension package.

Payment and the Optional Pro License

Pro is an optional one-time purchase (no subscription). Payment is processed by Payhip, our payment provider; we never see or store your card details. Payhip emails you a license key, and you paste that key into the Extension to activate Pro.

Upcoming Feature (not yet released)

A future Pro update may offer optional cloud sync through your own Google Drive account (OAuth). If enabled, only the data you choose to sync is sent to Google's servers under your own authorization; it never passes through our servers. This feature is not part of the current version.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published with the next Extension release.
